How Video Compression Works
A raw video is enormous — thousands of full-resolution images per second plus audio — so every video you watch is already compressed. A compressor simply trades a little visual data you are unlikely to notice for a much smaller, more shareable file. Best Compression Settings
There is no single “best” setting — the right choice depends on where the video is going. As a rule of thumb, H.264 + CRF 23–26 halves most files with quality you can barely tell apart, while H.265 or AV1 give the biggest savings for storage on modern devices. For exact platform limits, switch to Target file size and the encoder calculates the bitrate needed for your clip’s length to land near 5, 10, 16, 25, 50, 100 or 250 MB — or any custom number. For repeatable, accurate sizing on important clips, enable two-pass encoding.
Compress Videos for Social Media
Every platform re-compresses what you upload, so the goal is to hand it a clean, right-sized file that survives that second pass with the most detail intact. Use the one-click presets — YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Email, Website, LMS and General Sharing — and the tool applies the recommended resolution, codec, frame rate and audio for that destination automatically.

Compress Videos Without Losing Quality
The fear with any compressor is a blocky, smeared result. The trick is CRF (Constant Rate Factor) encoding: instead of forcing a fixed bitrate, the encoder targets a constant perceived quality and spends only as many bits as each scene needs. A CRF around 23–26 typically halves a file with no obvious loss; lower values stay closer to the original.
For footage that is already efficiently encoded, the Lossless Optimize mode rewraps the existing streams into an optimised container and adds web fast-start — shrinking overhead with zero re-encoding and therefore zero quality loss. And because this compressor never adds a watermark, your output looks exactly like the source, just smaller.
Supported Video Formats
You can compress every common video container and output to the format that fits your destination. Input formats include MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WEBM, FLV, WMV, M4V, MPEG/MPG, 3GP, OGV, TS, MTS, M2TS, VOB, ASF, F4V, DV and AVCHD.
